Long-Term Danger

According to Tim Bert, MD, about 30 million kids play youth sports and over 3.5 million of them experience a sport injury! They are mostly sprains, and strains. Dr. Bert also warns that he sees a lot of untreated youth sports injuries pop up later in life. These later injuries could have been avoided, had the child gotten the proper treatment. It is important to ice aching muscles after a game, practice, or even a workout. Icing reduces pain, swelling, and bruising. Stretching before activity helps athletes to avoid aggravating any aches or pains they may encounter. Luckily for us and all of the young athletes out there, we have Athletic Trainers to show us how to treat our injuries the right way!

Keeping our children safe and teaching them to speak up when they are hurt is very important. Time is one of the more critical factors in treating an injury. Applying therapy before it's too late will keep athletes in better conditions so that they can get back in the game sooner.
